The 24-team 2002 Buzz Classic, hosted by Georgia Tech (22-8, 0-0 ACC), begins Friday at the Al Bishop Softball Complex in Marietta. The Jackets are set to play Tennessee Tech at 6 p.m. and Harvard at 8 p.m. on the opening day of the tournament.
Last time out, Tech split a doubleheader with Auburn, winning the second game, 2-1, behind a four-hitter from freshman pitcher Jessica Sallinger, she leads the squad with an 11-3 record and a 1.30 earned run average.
Tennessee Tech enters the event with an 11-12 mark, and leads the all-time series with the Jackets, 8-9-1. Harvard heads south having won its first five games of the season. In its last action, the Crimson swept a double header from Drexel. Tech won a pair from Harvard a year ago in the only previous meeting.
On Saturday, the Jackets face Illinois at 3 p.m., followed by Charleston Southern at 5 p.m. The Fighting Illini sport a 15-8 mark and have never faced Tech. Charleston Southern is 10-26 on the season and is 2-2 all-time against the Jackets.
Bracket play opens at 8 p.m. Saturday and concludes with the championship game at 1 p.m. Sunday.
Admission for adults is $5 for a one-day pass, $8 for a two-day pass and $13 for a three-day pass. For children (ages 6-12), a one-day pass is $3, a two-day pass is $5 and a three-day pass is $8. Children under age six may enter free of charge.
