Women’s Tennis Opens ACC Play this Weekend

THE FLATS – The Georgia Tech women’s tennis team opens Atlantic Coast Conference play this weekend, traveling to No. 17 Notre Dame and Louisville.

SCOUTING TECH – The Yellow Jackets head north to open the conference slate and look to get back to winning ways, coming off a 1-1 weekend a week ago. Tech grabbed a 7-0 sweep over Gonzaga in its only home match of the month before dropping a hard-fought 4-1 decision at No. 3 Georgia last Sunday. Mahak Jain recorded Tech’s only victory in Athens to move to 15-5 overall in singles and 6-1 in dual play. The Yellow Jackets came in at No. 30 in the latest team ITA rankings released this week.

SCOUTING NOTRE DAME – Also coming off a loss, Notre Dame has won three of its past four matches entering conference play this weekend. The Fighting Irish also welcome Clemson on Sunday. Most recently, Notre Dame dropped a 5-2 decision to Wisconsin, winning the doubles point and a singles victory from Akari Matsuno. In the latest ITA rankings released this week, Notre Dame came in at No. 17. The Fighting Irish are led by No. 81 Page Freeman, who is 6-2 at the No. 1 position on the young season. Georgia Tech leads the all-time series against Notre Dame, 14-4, and has won nine-straight. When competing in South Bend, the Jackets are 5-2.

SCOUTING LOUISVILLE – Louisville opens ACC play this weekend hosting Clemson on Friday before welcoming Georgia Tech on Sunday. The Cardinals have won four-straight matches entering league play, most recently picking up a 5-2 victory over Memphis at home. Louisville is 7-1 when competing at home this season, its only loss coming in a 4-3 fashion to Ball State. Andrea Di Palma leads the Cardinal from the No. 1 position, owning a 5-3 singles mark. Tech is 7-0 when competing against Louisville and 3-0 on the road.
