Women’s Tennis Continues Tournament Action

GREENVILLE, S.C. – Georgia Tech women’s tennis continued play at the Debbie Southern Furman Fall Classic on Saturday, collecting a pair of wins.

Day two of the fall-opening tournament featured one round of doubles and one round of singles action. Opening the morning, Tech’s doubles pair of Given Roach and Ginger Foster saw their first action for the Yellow Jackets, topping Sydney Orefice and Ansley Chesire of Auburn, 8-4. Kate Sharabura and Ruth Marsh were competing for the consolation doubles title of their flight, but dropped a hard-fought, 8-4, decision to Auburn’s Adelina Flach and Ali DeSpain.

In singles action, Sharabura looked for a spot in the title match of flight six, facing Georgia’s Aysegul Mert. The Jacket pushed Mert, but fell, 6-3, 6-3. Meanwhile, Marsh will compete for the consolation title of flight eight on Sunday after the Jacket topped Auburn’s DeSpain in straight-sets, 7-5, 6-4.

Also representing Georgia Tech in singles action, Roach fell in straight-sets in flight three, while Meera Jesudason sought a spot in the championship consolation match of flight seven. Jesudason faced Alexandra Mikhailuk (Mississippi State), challenging the Bulldog to advance, but dropped the decision, 6-3, 7-6 (3).

Action concludes at the Debbie Southern Furman Fall Classic on Sunday with the final round of singles play.
