CHARLESTON, S.C. – Playing a pair of matches in Charleston, Georgia Tech women’s tennis brought home two victories, defeating College of Charleston and Charleston Southern. The wins pushed the Yellow Jackets to 11-5 overall.
COLLEGE OF CHARLESTON
The Yellow Jackets claimed a 1-0 match lead winning a pair of doubles matches against the Cougars to open play at College of Charleston. Gia Cohen and Ruth Marsh upended Maja Jekauc and Elizabeth Nowak on court three, 6-1, before Ava Hrastar and Kylie Bilchev clinched the doubles point from court two. The Jackets cruised to a 6-0 triumph over Clara Errard and Kate Earnhardt.
Tech carried momentum into singles action as Mahak Jain and Rosie Garcia Gross quickly cushioned the Jackets’ lead. On court five, Jain downed Nowak, 6-3, 6-1, minutes before Garcia Gross collected a 6-2,6-1 victory over Errard on court six, setting up a 3-0 Georgia Tech match lead. Both Hrastar and Cohen finished within seconds of each other to seal the 5-0 victory for the Jackets. Hrastar downed Jekauc 6-1, 6-2, while Cohen collected a 6-2, 6-3 decision over Earnhardt.
CHARLESTON SOUTHERN
Facing a quick turnaround, the Yellow Jackets cruised at Charleston Southern, defeating the Bucs, 4-0. Tech took the doubles point behind victories on courts two and three. Hrastar and Bilchev got things started, pocketing a 6-4 decision against Zoe Cauthen and Tiffany Pyritz on court two before Cohen and Marsh clinched the point from court three. The Jackets collected a 6-4 victory over Noa Boyd and Amila Jusufbegovic to give Tech the match advantage.
Three Jackets cruised to straight-set wins in singles to clinch the victory. Competing on court five, Kate Sharabura rolled to a 6-1, 6-3 decision over Jusufbegovic before Carol Lee topped Luiza Fullana, 6-4, 6-3, on court one. Hrastar clinched the victory from court two where the Jacket upended Madalina Man, 7-6 (4), 6-4.
