Women's Netters Open Dual-Match Season with MTSU

ATLANTA (Jan. 25) — Georgia Tech’s women’s tennis team, ranked 49th in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings, opens its dual-match season against Middle Tennessee State at Noon Sunday at the Bill Moore Tennis Center.

“We’re looking forward to the dual match portion of our schedule,” said first-year Tech head coach Bryan Shelton. “Middle Tennessee State is a much improved team. This is a good opportunity to test ourselves and see where we are early in the season. Hopefully, this is a match that we can win and get things off to a good start.”

One concern for Shelton is that his team remain healthy over the course of the season. Sophomore Mason Miller (Gainesville, Ga.) is out indefinitely following shoulder surgery and senior Tamarra Jenkin (New Braunfels, Texas) is nursing an injured wrist which caused her to miss the Atlantic Coast Conference Indoor Championships.

“It will be a little bit of an adjustment for us because we don’t have everyone competing for positions in the lineup,” Shelton said. “We really have to come together as a team. I’ve seen more team unity now than we had in the fall, but that is something we want to continue to develop.”
