Women’s Basketball to Participate in Gulf Coast Showcase

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech women’s basketball will face the University of South Florida in the opening round of the 2022 Gulf Coast Showcase, as tournament officials released the field of teams and schedule on Thursday. The three-day tournament is set to be played Nov. 25-27 at Hertz Arena in Estero, Fla.

Georgia Tech joins a competitive eight-team field that features six NCAA Tournament teams from last season. Joining the Yellow Jackets in Southwest Florida are Air Force, Baylor, Belmont, Michigan, Saint Louis, USF and Villanova.

First round action tips off on Nov. 25 with the Jackets and Bulls closing out opening day at 7:30 p.m. The semifinal games will take place on Nov. 26 with the championship matchup being played Nov. 27.

The Yellow Jackets own a 5-0 record against South Florida dating back to the first meeting in 1983. The teams last met in 1990. Last season, South Florida finished with a 24-9 overall record, including a 12-3 ledger in the American Athletic Conference, and reached the title game of the conference tournament. They made their eighth NCAA Tournament appearance, earning the No. 9 seed in the Greensboro Region.

The Gulf Coast Showcase returns for its 10th year this November. Tech is making its second appearance in the Gulf Coast Showcase, having played the tournament in 2014. The Jackets faced Green Bay, Villanova and Minnesota in the holiday tournament, going 1-2.
