THE FLATS – Georgia Tech women’s basketball climbed up two spots in the latest Associated Press national poll released on Monday, moving to No. 12.
The Yellow Jackets collected a pair of Atlantic Coast Conference wins this past week, defeating Boston College at home before collecting a road win at Clemson on Sunday. Tech improved to 17-4 overall and 8-2 in the ACC after the week, and opened a four-game road swing victoriously against the Tigers.
Georgia Tech has won four straight games and has taken seven of the past eight outings. Four Yellow Jackets are averaging double-figure scoring totals on the season, all within a one-point differential. Nerea Hermosa leads the Jackets, averaging 11.1 points per game. Lorela Cubaj continues to lead the Jackets on the boards, securing 11.7 rebounds per game, which tops the ACC and ranks 10th in the country. The forward is averaging a double-double on the season with 10.1 points per game.
Holding their opponents to 47.2 points per game on average, the Yellow Jackets continue to lead the nation in scoring defense. Tech also leads the ACC and ranks second in the nation in field goal percentage defense at 32.7 percent.
The ACC boasts five teams ranked in the nation’s top 25: No. 3 NC State, No. 4 Louisville, No. 12 Georgia Tech, No. 20 Notre Dame and No. 24 North Carolina.
The Jackets return to the hardwood for game two of this four-game road swing on Tuesday, Feb. 1 at Duke. Tip is slated for 7 p.m. on ACC Network Extra in Cameron Indoor Stadium.
