Women’s Basketball Set for ACC Tournament

THE FLATS – No. 25 Georgia Tech women’s basketball is set to open the 2022 ACC Tournament on Thursday night at Greensboro Coliseum. Earning the No. 6 seed, the Yellow Jackets will face Wake Forest for the second time in five days. The first three rounds (through quarterfinals) will be televised on RSN, locally on Bally Sports South.

Georgia Tech closed the regular season with a win at Wake Forest last Sunday to record its second 20-win season under head coach Nell Fortner. Lorela Cubaj posted her 12th double-double of the season behind 18 points, 16 rebounds and seven assists. The Yellow Jackets earned the No. 6 seed in the 45th annual tournament and earned a first round bye.

Wake Forest (14-15, 4-14 ACC) comes into the tournament having dropped three of its last four outings, most recently falling to Georgia Tech last Sunday. Jewel Spear leads Wake Forest offensively, averaging 18.4 points per game. Tech swept Wake Forest in the regular season and has won two straight against the Demon Deacons and four of the last five.

Virginia (5-21, 2-14 ACC) ended the regular season winning two of its last three games, defeating Duke and Pittsburgh. Three Cavaliers are averaging double-figure scoring averages this season, led by Camryn Taylor at 12.8 points per game. Tech upended the Cavaliers in its lone meeting in Atlanta, 67-31, to increase its win streak to two games.
