Women’s Basketball Names Pineda Assistant Coach

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech women’s basketball head coach MaChelle Joseph is excited to announce the promotion of Jonneshia Pineda to assistant coach. Pineda extends her role on staff having joined the Yellow Jacket family in 2013.

“I am very excited to add JP to our women’s basketball staff,” noted Joseph. “She has been a part of our program for four years and has worked extremely hard. She is loyal and committed to our players becoming the best they can be on and off the court! She is a tireless worker who will help us achieve our goal of winning a championship.”

A graduate of Georgia Southwestern State University, where she donned the Lady Hurricane uniform for two years, Pineda joined Tech’s staff in 2013 as a video coordinator intern. After gaining valuable experience during the 2013-14 season that saw the Jackets earn a berth to the NCAA Tournament, Pineda served as an assistant coach with the FBC Southeast Elite basketball program the following year before returning to The Flats in 2015. While away from The Flats, Pineda help guide the FBC Southeast Elite team to its best record in program history and participated in the AAU national championships.

For the past two seasons, Pineda has served as a graduate manager with the Yellow Jackets, helping Tech to a pair of 20-win seasons and two WNIT appearances. In her role as a graduate manager, Pineda assisted with the creation of scouting reports, aided with individual guard workouts, monitored academic progress of the student-athletes and helped organize team building activities.

“First, I would like to thank God because without him this would not be possible,” Pineda stated. “Secondly, I would like to thank Coach Joseph for this amazing opportunity. Things like this don’t happen in this business. Coach Joseph believed in me from day one and I really appreciate Coach Joseph and the Georgia Tech women’s basketball family for allowing me to continue/begin my career at Georgia Tech. Georgia Tech and the city of Atlanta is home and I’m extremely excited!”

Pineda recently completed master’s work from America Public University in June, receiving a Master of Sports Administration. Pineda earned a bachelor degree in business with a concentration in marketing from Georgia Southwestern State University in 2011. While a Lady Hurricane, Pineda received the Peach Belt Conference Scholar Athlete award in 2010, served as team captain, and was named to the Athletic Director Honor Roll and 2011 Peach Belt Conference Presidential Honor Roll.

Prior to attending Georgia Southwestern State University, Pineda played two seasons at Pear River Community College where she led the team in points and assists, was team captain and named a Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges All-Star.

In addition to her playing experience, Pineda brings along coaching and skills training to Joseph’s staff.
