Women’s Basketball Hosts Final Tune-up Monday Night

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech women’s basketball will get its final tune-up to the 2021-22 season Monday night when it welcomes Clayton State in an exhibition game. The Yellow Jackets and Lakers will tip at 6 p.m. in McCamish Pavilion.

Georgia Tech is coming off a historic season capped by a run to the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 last season. Tech finished the season with a 17-9 overall record and placed third in the Atlantic Coast Conference behind a 12-6 league mark. The Yellow Jackets welcome back all-ACC selections Lorela Cubaj and Lotta-Maj Lahtinen who were both tabbed preseason all-ACC ahead of the 2021-22 campaign. Guided by head coach Nell Fortner in her third season, Georgia Tech was predicted to finish third in the ACC by both the Blue Ribbon Panel and league’s head coaches.

In addition to its 10 returning letterwinners, Georgia Tech welcomed three newcomers to the 2021-22 roster – freshmen Elizabete Bulane (Adazi, Lativa) and Carmyn Harrison (Memphis, Tenn.), and fifth year transfer Digna Strautmane (Riga, Latvia).

Clayton State posted a 10-5 record last year due to a shortened season because of Covid-19. The Lakers went 10-4 in the Peach Belt Conference before falling to No. 6 North Georgia in the semifinals of the conference tournament to finish the season. Clayton State will visit Atlanta before it officially gets its season started on Nov. 12 against UVA Wise. The Lakers are guided by seventh-year head coach Kaleena Coleman.

Georgia Tech last hosted Clayton State in an exhibition contest to open the Nell Fortner era in 2019. The Yellow Jackets captured the win, 73-35, behind three Jackets in double-figures.

Monday’s game will not be televised or live streamed on the internet. No radio broadcast is planned.
