Wieters and Brown Named Georgia Tech Student-Athletes of the Week

ATLANTA – Matt Wieters and Savannah Brown were named Georgia Tech Student-Athletes of the Week for Monday, May 8, 2007.

Wieters, a junior from Goose Creek, S.C., hit an impressive .545 with two doubles, a home run, four walks and four RBI’s in the Jackets three-game sweep of the University of South Florida. In the series opener, Wieters went 3-for-4 with a home run and five RBI’s to spark the team to an 11-3 victory. He went 2-for-3 in the finale with two doubles and a pair of RBI’s to lead the team to a 15-7 win. Wieters is hitting a scorching .514 with five doubles, a triple, a home run and 12 RBI’s over a current 10-game hitting streak.

Brown, a junior from San Diego, Calif., smacked her team-leading 20th home run of the season in a 4-1 victory over Mercer. Brown set a new Atlantic Coast Conference record with her 72nd and 73rd RBI’s this season. The catcher has led the team on its current 16-game winning streak from the No. 4 spot in the lineup. On the season, Brown is hitting .339 with 30 extra-base hits and a .715 slugging percentage.
