ATLANTA – With less than a month to go until softball season, Kelsi Wesemanhas already earned one preseason award. The senior shortstop was named to the 2012 College Sports Madness Preseason All-American Second Team.
Weseman, who is coming off the best season in her college career, earned NFCA Second Team All-American status after an outstanding 2011 season where she batted .424, ripped 67 hits, 17 doubles, 21 homeruns and had a slugging percentage of .968, second in the nation.
Weseman was one of three ACC players to earn the honor as Courtney Liddle of Virginia Tech found a spot on the Fourth Team alongside Vangie Galindo of Maryland.
CollegeSportsMadness.com chose Katelyn Boyd of Arizona State as the Field Player of the Year, Lauren Haeger of Florida as the Freshman of the Year, Jolene Henderson of California as the Pitcher of the Year and Clint Myers, the coach of defending national champion Arizona State, the Coach of the Year.
The website also determined the same honors for each conference and Weseman was dubbed the ACC Field Player of the Year while her coach Sharon Perkinsreceived Coach of the Year honors.
Weseman found a spot on the College Sports Madness All-Conference First team alongside teammates Alysha Rudnik and Jessica Sinclair while pitchers Lindsey Anderson and Hope Rush each were named to the Second Team.
