WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The Georgia Tech volleyball team (13-4, 4-1) played its best match of the season as they defeated Wake Forest (10-4, 2-2) on Wednesday night in three games, 15-6, 15-8, 15-10.
Junior Eida Mabry and senior Teryl Townsend led the offensive attack for the Jackets as they each had 17 kills on the night, followed by junior Kyleen Bell who posted 14. Tech had four players end the match with double-figure digs, including Kele Eveland who notched 14, Bell and Amanda Hess who each had 13, and Maja Pachale and Townsend who recorded 12 apiece. For the match, Eveland tallied 47 assists.
Trina Maso de Moya led the Deacons with 18 kills and 25 digs, while senior middle blocker Jessica Hood chipped in 12 kills, and Margaret Davidson added 10.
Tech put up an impressive offensive attack through the match, hitting .285 as a team on the night. Wake held a 6-3 lead in the first game, but the Jackets stormed back scoring 12 consecutive points to close out the game. In game two, Tech took an early 7-0 lead, only to see Wake pulled to within four points to make it 9-5. The Jackets continued to sideout and eventually won the game, 15-8. The third game proved closer, with the Deacons trailing by only three at 13-10, but the Jackets were able to wrap it up by a 15-10 score.
Tech will take on Duke University (13-4, 3-1) at 7 p.m. on Friday in Cameron Indoor Stadium.
