Two More Solid Efforts On Day Two Of Zone Diving Championship

March 6, 2012

AUBURN, Ala. – Georgia Tech’s divers turned in another solid effort on day two of the Zone Diving Championship at Auburn University. Brandon Makinson was 13th on the 1-meter and Ashley Hardy was 16th on the 3-meter.

Makinson scored 296.40 points in Tuesday’s preliminary round to earn a spot on the finals, where he posted a total score of 612.25 points to place 13th.

In women’s action on the 3-meter board, Hardy earned her spot in the finals with a 286.05 score in the prelims. Tuesday night, she totaled 586 points, which was good for 16th place.

“It would obviously be more exciting if we had moved into qualifying position today,” said diving coach John Ames. “But I am so thrilled that Ashley dove the way she did. Today’s prelims and finals were the two best 3-meter lists she had ever done. Brandon was very solid as well, but he needed to be a little sharper. Tomorrow Chris Khosravi will look to get a qualifying spot on platform.”

Action resumes at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday morning with the platform competition.
