Three Track Team Members Post NCAA Marks at Iowa State Meet

AMES, Iowa – Three members of the Georgia Tech track team improved on their season-best times to earn qualifying marks for next weekend’s NCAA Track and Field Championships at Fayetteville, Ark.

Senior Sara Pardue clocked a personal-best time of 2:06.85 in the 800 meters, placing fourth to receive an automatic qualifying mark. Pardue broke the school record of 2:06.89 that she previously set in 2000. Sophomore Amandi Rhett finished second in the 60 meters with a season-best time of 7.41, earning her a provisional qualifying mark.

2002 ACC Indoor Most Valuable Performer Brendon Mahoney placed third and received an automatic NCAA qualifying mark in the mile run as he recorded a new personal-best time of 4:00.34. Senior Joe Stegall clocked a season-best 4:10.29 and finished seven in the mile.

Also competing for Tech’s women were junior Jessica DeFreitas who finished fifth in the long jump (19’10.25″) and sixth in the 60 meters (7.57), freshman Shanta Smith who finished sixth in the triple jump (39’06.00″), senior Mishanta Reyes who finished seventh in the long jump (19’06.00) and senior Nicole Campbell (800 meters).

At the Alex Wilson Invitational at Notre Dame, Juniors Katie Griffin (16:55:46) and Amy Dock (16:56:07) competed in the 5000 meters, placing ninth and tenth respectively.

The NCAA Championships are slated for March 8-9 at the University of Arkansas’ Randal Tyson Track Center.
