Three Tech Players Advance to Third Round of ITA All-American Pre-Qualification

Tulsa, Okla. – Dean O’Brien, Dusan Miljevic and Juan Spir each advanced to the third round of the pre-qualification portion of the D’Novo Men’s ITA All-American Tennis Championships, the first national singles and doubles titles of the 2010-11 collegiate tennis season.

Miljevic, a junior from Novi Sad, Serbia, won twice Saturday in straight sets, beating Joe Wood of New Mexico and Jens Vorkefeld of Denver by the identical score of 6-4, 6-3, to make the round of 64.

O’Brien, a senior from Benmore, South Africa, and Spir, a sophomore from Medellin, Colombia, each had first-round byes. O’Brien eased past Valentin Mihai of Wichita State in the round, 6-0, 6-3, while Spir defeated Szymon Tataczyk of Purdue, 6-2, 6-3.

Sophomore Magin Ortiga won his first round match in three sets over SMU’s Robert Lambeth, but was eliminated in the round of 128, 6-3, 1-6, 6-2, by UCLA’s Clay Thompson.

The tournament includes six rounds of prequalifying and qualifying matches before the main draw commences Thursday. Two more rounds of pre-qualifying are scheduled for Sunday, after which sixteen players will advance to the qualification stage, which begins Monday. The D’Novo/ITA Men’s All-American Championships, hosted by the University of Tulsa in Tulsa, Okla. for the fourth straight year.

Senior Eliot Potvin and junior Kevin King are already entered in the qualification round, and senior All-American Guillermo Gomez is exempt into the main draw.
