Tech's Schnugg and Muguruza Advance to Quarterfinals of Consolations at ITA's

ATLANTA – Georgia Tech’s duo of senior Scott Schnugg and freshman Jose Luis Muguruza advanced to the quarterfinals in consolation doubles play in the ITA Main Draw before being eliminated on Friday evening. The tournament is being held in Chattanooga, Tenn.

Schnugg and Muguruza began doubles play against the nation’s second-ranked duo of Ante Matijevic and Lester Cook of Texas A&M, but lost by an 8-4 score. Cook is also currently ranked 16th in the pre-season singles rankings.

After the first round consolation match was pushed back to Friday due to weather conditions on Thursday, Tech’s top duo scored an 8-3 victory over Benedict Dorsch and Benjamin Becker of Baylor, currently ranked tenth in the nation in doubles. Dorsch is also the top-ranked singles player in the country, while Becker stands 17th in the rankings.

Mark Riddell and David Lingman of Harvard ended Schnugg and Muguruza’s run in the ITA’s on Friday night, however, by a score of 8-2 in the quarterfinal match of the consolation bracket. The Harvard duo is the 34th-ranked team in the country.
