Tech's Porter Finishes 14th in NCAA Long Jump

ATLANTA (May 31) — Georgia Tech junior Clayton Porter finished 14th in the long jump with a leap of 23 feet-9 inches on the first day of competition at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Duke’s Wallace Wade Stadium. Tech’s three entires in the 800 meters, freshman Brendon Mahoney, senior Becky Megesi and junior Sara Pardue, failed to reach the finals. Mahoney ran 1:48.17 to finish third in his heat, while in the women’s competition, Megesi was fifth in her heat at 2:07.10 and Pardue was sixth with a time of 2:08.58.

The NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships continue Thursday as Tech’s Bryan Swarn and Michael Johnson run the semifinals of the 400 meters at 6:55 p.m. and then join Aaron Sink and Sharif Azim for the 4×400-meter relay semifinals at 8:25 p.m. Senior Malcolm Leason will compete in the triple jump Friday at 5 p.m.
