Tech's McCray Captures Singles & Doubles Flight Championships

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Yellow Jackets concluded play at the 2005 Seminole Classic, hosted by Florida State University, with six singles and one doubles win on the final day of competition.

The Yellow Jackets’ duo of Whitney McCray and Kelly Anderson earned the Flight Championships of their doubles bracket with an 8-3 victory against Florida State’s Suzanna Mansour and Anna Rynarzewska, while Tarryn Rudman and Alison Silverio finished as the runner-up in their doubles bracket after falling to Houston’s Kami Miller and Yolandi Terblanche, 6-8.

In singles play, McCray stopped UAB’s Seden Soyalp, 6-4, 6-1 to advance to Saturday afternoon’s flight championship, which she won by defeating Troy’s Suzanne Jones, 6-3, 6-0. Anderson finished fifth in her singles bracket by defeating UAB’s Annemieke Elsholz, 6-0, 7-6 (3), while Silverio and Rudman each split their doubles matches on the day. Silverio fell to USF’s Liz Cruz, 3-6, 6-3, 10-2 in the morning round, but came back with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Stetson’s Mili Milovanovic, and Rudman lost against USF’s Courtney Vernon, 6-1 6-2 but responded with a 6-7 (6), 6-4, 10-3 victory against Houston’s Bri Bateup.

The Yellow Jackets will take the rest of the fall off and return to action in the middle of January, when they travel to the Michigan Invitational
