CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Georgia Tech’s Roger Anderson continued his roll in the fall , advancing to the round of 16 at the ITA Region II Championship in Chapel Hill, N.C. Junior Scott Schnugg, who also picked up a pair of wins on Friday, will join him in the third round.
Anderson got the Yellow Jackets started as he opened the day with a win over East Tennessee State’s Alejandro Salazar. Anderson was not tested in the match, winning by a 6-2, 6-1 score. In the second round, he found the going good again, defeating South Carolina’s Ben Atkinson by scores of 6-4 and 7-6 (3). He will next face 11th-seeded Romain Jurd of Florida State in the third round.
Schnugg also had a solid day, opening play with a win over American’s Garg Tushar in impressive fashion by a score of 6-2, 6-3. He then upset 14th-seeded Matt Cloer of Florida State in a hard-fought three-set match. Schnugg dropped the first set by a 6-4 score, but then rallied to win the next two sets by scores of 7-5 and 6-2. He will now face North Carolina’s Nicholas Monroe in the third round on Saturday.
