Tech Women's Tennis Set to Face Top-Ranked Georgia

Feb. 22, 2002

ATLANTA-After a loss to fourth-ranked Vanderbilt in the season opener, the Georgia Tech women’s tennis team has won six consecutive matches, including last week’s 5-2 upset of 22nd-ranked South Carolina. The Yellow Jackets have risen quickly in the national rankings, jumping from 47th to their current rank of 26th.

Freshman standout Catherine Gunn, named ACC Player of the Week on Wednesday, leads the Jackets with a perfect 7-0 record in dual match play. Gunn hopes to continue her strong start as the Yellow Jackets host two tough opponents this weekend.

On Saturday, Tech is hoping to pull its second upset in three matches as the Jackets take on top-ranked and in-state rival Georgia. Tech (6-1) will face-off with the Bulldogs (7-0) beginning at 1pm.

On Sunday, Tech plays host to the 67th-ranked Auburn Tigers at noon. The Tigers (6-0) are undefeated on the young season.

Both matches will be played at the Bill Moore Tennis Center on the Tech campus.
