April 20, 2002

RALEIGH, N.C. – The 22nd-ranked Georgia Tech women’s tennis team could not recover after dropping the doubles point and fell to top-seeded Duke by a 4-2 score in the Atlantic Coast Conference Championship semifinals on Saturday morning. The four-day tournament is being contested at the Millbrook Exchange Tennis Center in Raleigh, N.C.

The Yellow Jackets (14-9) dropped a pair of doubles matches to open the day, but were unable to rally past the Blue Devils (23-3) in singles action. Tech’s No. 1 doubles tandem of Mason Miller and Jaime Wong fell to Duke’s Kelly McCain and Hillary Adams by an 8-3 score, while the Jackets’ No. 3 team of Fallon Koon and Catherine Gunn lost to Katie Granson and Susie Abromeit by an 8-2 count.

In singles play, the Jackets picked up a pair of wins, as Mason Miller downed Ioana Plesu at No. 4 in straight sets. Miller won a tight first set by a 7-5 score and then cruised to a 6-2 second-set victory. Sophomore Sekita Grant was Tech’s other winner on the day, capturing her match at No. 6 singles over Katie Granson in straight sets. Grant won the first set by a 6-2 score and then held on to capture a 7-5 victory in the second set. The Blue Devils picked up wins at Nos. 1, 3 and 5 singles to clinch the match.
