ATLANTA – The Georgia Tech women’s basketball team (12-1) looks to stay undefeated at home when it meets Jackson State (2-7) on Wednesday, Jan. 2 at Alexander Memorial Coliseum. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m., as the Jackets will try to extend its best start in a season in program history.
Fans can follow all the action on WREK radio (91.1 FM/www.wrek.org), Georgia Tech women’s basketball’s flagship station.
Tech will meet the Tigers for the first time in Wednesday night’s matchup. The Jackets are 8-2 all-time against Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) opponents, including a 79-67 road win over Mississippi Valley State on Dec. 18.
Head Coach MaChelle Joseph and the Jackets will also be chasing history against Jackson State. Joseph needs one more victory to move into sole possession of second place on the all-time coaches win list. She currently has 74 wins and is tied with former head coach Bernadette McGlade. Tech also needs one more win to earn the programs 450th victory.
The Jackets are coming off an 83-68 triumph over in-state rival Kennesaw State to win the Georgia Tech Hotel & Conference Center Holiday Tournament title. Freshman Alex Montgomery was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Performer after flirting with a triple-double in the championship game. The Tacoma, Wash. native scored a career-high 21 points to go with eight rebounds and seven assists against the Owls.
Georgia Tech will next travel to North Carolina to open its Atlantic Coast Conference portion of the schedule on Saturday, Jan. 5, in a televised game against the Tar Heels in Chapel Hill. The game is scheduled for 4 p.m., and will be aired on Fox Sports South in Atlanta.
