Tech Travels to Stanford for ITA Kickoff

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech men’s tennis will play its first road matches of the spring season as the team heads to No. 18 Stanford for the ITA Kickoff. Tech’s first match is against Stanford on Sunday, Jan. 29 at 4 p.m. ET.

Four teams will play at each host site, the winning teams from the opening round will meet in the second round to determine who advances to the 2023 ITA National Team Indoor Championships. The other opening round match will feature No. 20 Pepperdine and Texas A&M.

Heading into the weekend, Stanford has a 2-1 record. Stanford has wins against Saint Mary’s and Santa Clara, but fell to California this past weekend.

Tech is off to a promising start this season. After defeating Furman in their home opener, the Jackets had a successful weekend of competition.

Tech hosted Presbyterian on Thursday for its first doubleheader of the week and came out with 4-3 and 4-1 wins. On Sunday, the Jackets finished the weekend with another doubleheader victory against Wofford (7-0) and Alabama State (6-1).

One standout for Tech was Marcus McDaniel, who went 4-0 in singles play with dominating defeats over his opponents. Keshav Chopra and Elias Shokry were strong doubles pair for Tech this past week, finishing 3-0 together. In his first collegiate dual match season, Shokry heads into the ITA Kickoff with a 5-0 singles record while primarily playing at the No. 5 position.
