ATLANTA–Georgia Tech and Mississippi State have agreed on a two-year, home-and-home football series in 2008 and 2009, both schools announced.
Tech and the Bulldogs will meet in 2008 in Atlanta at Bobby Dodd Stadium/Grant Field and in 2009 at Mississippi State’s Davis Wade Stadium/Scott Field in Starkville.
The two schools will be meeting in football for just the third time ever and for the first time since 1929, when Tech defeated the Bulldogs, 27-13. The Jackets also won the 1908 meeting, 23-0. Oddly, Tech never faced Mississippi State when the Yellow Jackets were in the Southeastern Conference from 1933-63.
In addition to the date with Mississippi State, Tech’s 2008 schedule also includes home games with Miami, Florida State, Virginia and Duke, and road games at Virginia Tech, Clemson, Boston College, North Carolina, Army and Georgia.
In 2009, the Jackets are scheduled to host Clemson, Virginia Tech, North Carolina, Wake Forest and Georgia, while playing at Miami, Florida State, Virginia, Duke and Vanderbilt along with the game at Mississippi State.
The series with Mississippi State adds to Georgia Tech’s recent trend of facing SEC opponents. In addition to the annual rivalry game with Georgia, Tech played Auburn in 2003 and 2005 and Vanderbilt in 2002 and 2003. The Jackets have upcoming home-and-home series with Vanderbilt (2009, 2013), Mississippi (2010, 2011) and Alabama (2013, 2014).
