THE FLATS – Georgia Tech will play its first basketball game in the brand new McCamish Pavilion Nov. 9 against Tulane. The Green Wave and state rival Georgia, as well as a nine-game Atlantic Coast Conference slate, highlight the home schedule which the Yellow Jackets will play in their new on-campus home.
Tech’s second season under head coach Brian Gregory will feature 17 home games, including Atlantic Coast Conference opponents Clemson, Florida State, Maryland, Miami, North Carolina, NC State, Virginia, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest. The non-conference home schedule also features Chattanooga, The Citadel, Fordham and UNC Wilmington among others.

“I believe our home non-conference and conference schedule will bring a lot of exciting basketball to our new home, McCamish (pronounced mc-CAME-ish) Pavilion,” said head coach Brian Gregory. “The challenging opponents will also act as another step in the process of rebuilding our program. To open McCamish Pavilion with a traditional competitive rival with the history of Tulane acts as a bridge between our history and our future. It will be a great early season test for our team. “
Because both schools were original members of the Southeastern and Metro Conferences, Tech and Tulane have a long history in basketball dating back to 1909. The teams played annually from 1938 to 1978, with the exception of 1965, and the Nov. 9 meeting will be the fifth since Tech departed the Metro Conference to join the ACC. Tech has a 35-33 advantage in the series, and the Green Wave last visited Atlanta in 2001.
One of the highlights of Gregory’s first season on the Flats was the Yellow Jackets’ 68-56 victory over Georgia in Athens last December, the first win for Tech in Athens since 1976. The Bulldogs come back to Atlanta for 189th renewal of the series at McCamish Pavilion on Dec. 4. Tech leads that all-time series, 102-86, and has a 60-25 advantage in games played over Georgia at home.
Miami, an NIT team last year, will be the first ACC team to visit McCamish Pavilion on the weekend of Jan. 5. The Hurricanes also were the last opponent to visit Alexander Memorial Coliseum, on March 6, 2011, and the Yellow Jackets prevailed, 66-57, in their final game played in the 55-year-old arena.
Tech’s first four ACC home games – Miami, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest and Virginia – as well as its final home game of the season (NC State) all fall on weekends (either Saturday or Sunday).
The full 17-game season ticket price for 2012-13 is $330 (plus any associated TECH Fund contributions). This is just $30 more than Tech’s 10-game Philips package last year and $105 less than the price for the full season ticket for 16 games at Alexander Memorial Coliseum in 2010-11.
Special season ticket discounts (20 percent off or $264 per ticket) are available to both current Georgia Tech faculty/staff members and alumni letterwinners. The TECH Fund is not discounted.

Other early season events on the Tech schedule have already been announced, including the Yellow Jackets’ annual ACC-Big Ten Challenge matchup at Illinois on Nov. 28, and a Thanksgiving weekend trip to the Anaheim Classic, which includes California, Drake, Drexel, Pacific, Rice, Saint Mary’s and Xavier.
The Yellow Jackets will face Clemson, Duke, Miami, North Carolina, NC State, Virginia, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest on the road in conference play this year.
The pairings for the Anaheim Classic, as well as exact dates, times and television for the entire Tech schedule, will be announced later this summer.
