THE FLATS – Georgia Tech men’s tennis continues regular season competition this weekend with matchups against Georgia State (0-2, 0-0 Sun Belt) and Auburn (3-2, 0-0 SEC). Tech will host Georgia State for a match at 5 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 3 and then hit the road to Auburn for a match on Sunday, Feb. 5 at 12 p.m.
Last weekend, the Jackets faced off with two nationally ranked team in the ITA Kickoff. After a hard-fought battle, Tech fell to No. 18 Stanford. In their second match of the ITA Kickoff, the Jackets suffered a 4-1 loss to No. 20 Pepperdine.
In singles play, two Jackets defeated nationally-ranked opponents. Keshav Chopra took down Stanford’s No. 2 Nishesh Basavareddy in a two-set decision (6-1, 6-2) on Sunday. No. 72 Andres Martin also earned a two-set victory, taking down Pepperdine’s No. 31 Daniel de Jonge on Monday.
During the 2022 spring season, Tech beat Georgia State 4-3. The Jackets clinched the doubles point with two-straight wins and recorded three victories in singles play. The Panthers are currently 0-2 this season with losses to Stetson and South Florida.
In their last meeting, the Jackets were defeated 3-4 by Auburn. Depsite two losses in doubles, Tech was able to earn three wins in singles competition. The Tigers are currently 3-2 with wins over Michigan State, Alabama State and Samford. This past weekend, Auburn recorded its first losses of the season against No. 10 Wake Forest and No. 19 Duke.
