Tech Tennis Sweeps Ole Miss Doubles At Michigan Invitational

Jan. 20, 2013

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech women’s tennis swept the Ole Miss Rebels in doubles play on day two of the Michigan Invitational in Ann Arbor, Mich.

The Yellow Jacket duo of freshman Natasha Prokhnevska and junior Muriel Wacker improved to 3-1 on the spring season with an 8-3 victory over Ole Miss’ tandem of Mai El Kamash and Julia Jones. The Tech sweep of Ole Miss followed three doubles losses to USF to begin the day.

“We had a strange day,” head coach Rodney Harmon said. “We were swept in doubles by USF and then we swept Mississippi. In singles, our team played well but lost all five singles matches. We squandered a number of set and match points in those matches. The match play was great and will really help us prepare for next weekend.”

Senior Elizabeth Kilborn dropped a hard-fought 7-6 (2), 7-6 (7) singles match to Michigan’s 61st-ranked Ronit Yurovsky. Freshmen Kendal Woodard and Prokhnevska each lost tough three-set singles matches to the Wolverines.

Tech will finish the tournament with singles matches against USF at 11 a.m.

Tech will play doubles against USF at 11:30 a.m. Sunday and against Ole Miss at 1 p.m. The Jackets will challenge the host Wolverines in singles to conclude Sunday.
