Tech Takes Down Georgia State 6-1

THE FLATS – The Georgia Tech men’s tennis team defeated Georgia State 6-1 at home on Friday, Feb. 3.

Tech went 2-1 in doubles play, clinching the doubles point and going up 1-0. Although Georgia State won the first match, Tech came back with two straight wins. Andres Martin and Marcus McDaniel beat Georgia State’s Grinvalds and Datei 7-6 after a 7-2 tiebreak victory. Brandon McKinney and Robert Bauer defeated Georgia State’s Tymes and Batista 7-5 to secure the doubles point.

The Jackets won five out of the six singles matches. Martin started off singles play with a quick 6-0, 6-2 win over Grinvalds. McDaniel followed suit with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Georgia State’s Padilha. Rohan Sachdev began his match a 6-4 win over Georgia State’s Morais in the first set. Sachdev fell 5-7 in the second, but he was able to secure the match with a 6-3 victory in the third set. Keshav Chopra came back after a 4-6 loss in the first set with 6-3, 6-2 wins in the second and third. Elias Shokry won Tech’s final singles match in a 7-6 [7-5], 4-6, 6-2 decision over Georgia State’s Batista.
