THE FLATS – Georgia Tech swimming and diving is set to open 2023 with two meets that feature nationally ranked opponents. The Jackets will compete against SCAD and No. 8/15 Texas A&M on Friday, Jan. 6 at 11 a.m. On Saturday, Jan. 7, Tech will host No. 9/19 Auburn for a dual meet at 11 a.m.
The men’s swim & dive team was ranked No. 21 in the December CSCAA Division I Top 25 Poll and No. 23 in SwimSwam’s most recent 2022-23 NCAA Men’s Power Rankings.
Last time out, Tech competed against Georgia, Florida, Florida State and Auburn at the UGA Invite. Both teams finished fifth and multiple athletes recorded NCAA qualifying marks.
At the UGA Invite and throughout the fall, several swimmers and divers proved to be top performers for Tech. Batur Ünlü, Berke Saka and Ruben Lechuga have led the men’s team with multiple broken school records, NCAA ‘B’ Cut times and NCAA Zone Diving marks.
Deniz Ertan has been a standout on the women’s team. Ertan has continued to improve on her record-breaking performances and has record NCAA ‘B’ Cut times in several different events. Two other top performers for the women, McKenzie Campbell and Anna Bradescu, have and will continue to contribute to Tech’s success.
Friday’s meet will consist of 14 events including the 200 medley relay, 1000 free, 200 IM and 200 free relay. Saturday’s meet will consist of 16 events including 400 medley relay, 1000 free, 200 IM and 400 free relay. Diving will not be scored during Friday’s meet.
