THE FLATS – Georgia Tech is ranked 21st in the USA Today preseason Top 25 baseball coaches’ poll, which was released this week, and head coach Danny Hall is one of 31 Division I coaches serving on this year’s voting panel.

Tech, the reigning ACC Champion, has also been ranked No. 12 (Perfect Game), No. 16 (Baseball America) and No. 17 (Collegiate Baseball) in various preseason polls. The Yellow Jackets return 23 letterwinners from last year’s squad that finished 38-26 and reached the NCAA Regional for the 26th time in the last 28 years.

North Carolina (4th), Florida State (9th), NC State (11th) and Virginia (25th) also represented the Atlantic Coast Conference in the USA Today poll, with Clemson, Miami and Virginia Tech receiving votes.

The USA Today Sports Board of Coaches is made up of 31 coaches at Division I institutions, and all are members of the American Baseball Coaches Association.

Baseball practice for the 2013 season officially begins Friday, January 25, with Tech’s season-opener set for February 15 versus Akron at Russ Chandler Stadium.
