Tech Preps To Host ACC Championships

ATLANTA – The Georgia Tech men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams are set to host the 2011 ACC Championships at the Georgia Tech Aquatic Center. The meet will kick off on Wednesday, February 16 at 6 p.m. with the 200-Medley Relay.

The Women’s Championship and Men’s and Women’s Diving Championships will be hosted first from February 16-19. Admission is Free.

After the 200-Medley Relay on Wednesday, the only other event of the night, the 800-Free Relay will take place.

Thursday will begin the first day of preliminary races. The day will begin at 11 a.m. with the 500-Free, the 200-IM and the 50-Free. Diving will start at 1 p.m. with the women’s one-meter dive, followed by the men’s three-meter diving at 2:45 p.m. The women’s one-meter dive finals will begin at 5 p.m., while the finals for the swimming events will start at 7 p.m. on Thursday night. Three meter-diving will be the second-to-last event of the night, followed only by the 200-Free Relay.

On Friday, the swimming events will include the 400-IM, 100-Fly, 200-Free, 100-Breast and 100-Back. Diving will immediately follow, this time with the men’s one-meter dive at 1 p.m. and the women’s three-meter dive at 2:45. The finals will follow Thursday’s format, starting with the one-meter dive, the swimming events, the women’s three-meter dive and will conclude with the 400-Medley Relay.

Everything will wrap up on Saturday as the 200-Back, 100-Freee, 200-Breast, 200-Fly and 1,650-Free will all be run. The women’s platform diving prelims and finals will begin at 1 p.m. followed by the men’s platform prelims at 4 p.m. The finals will begin with the final heat of the 1,650-Free and will conclude with the 400-Free Relay.

The women’s squad took ninth at last year’s meet in Chapel Hill, tallying 155.5 points behind an outstanding showing by then-senior Hannah Krimm who finished fourth in the three-meter dive, a 10th place finish by Heidi Hatteberg in the 200-Back, and an 11th place finish in the 200-Fly by Taylor Flynn.
