THE FLATS – The Georgia Tech swimming and diving teams concludes competition at home with meets against several different programs. The swimmers will face off with Carson Newman on Friday, Jan. 27 at 3 p.m. and Gardner-Webb on Saturday, Jan. 28 at 11 a.m. Tech diving hosts Miami, Florida State and Auburn for competition on Friday at 2 p.m. and Saturday at 11 a.m.
On Saturday, Tech will recognize its 2023 senior class on the pool deck before the meets. The senior class include McKenzie Campbell, Abby Cohen, Atticus Cohen, Kyrsten Davis, Imane El Barodi, Daniel Kertesz, Ruben Lechuga, Duda Seifer, Jonathan Shaheen, Brooke Switzer and Carmen Woodruff.
Last time out, the men beat Queens 149-112 while the women defeated Queens (191-103) and West Florida (234-66).
Tech swept both the men’s 1650 and 500 free. Mert Kilavuz won the 1650 free, Charles Perks placed second and Sean Santos finished third. In the 500 free, Batur Ünlü was the winner while Kilavuz took second and Perks secured the sweep in third.
The women swept 200 fly with McKenzie Campbell in first, Lindsey Merk in second and Abby Cohen rounding out the top three.
Deniz Ertan championed both the women’s 1650 free and 500. Allison Brown joined her teammate with third-place finishes in both events.
Berke Saka was victorious in both men’s backstroke events.
In the women’s diving events, Katie McKyton won the 1 Meter while Anna Bradescu won the 3 Meter and placed second in the 1 Meter. Carmen Woodruff took home second in the 3 Meter and third in the 1 Meter.
Both the men and the women earned top three performances in the 200 medley and 200 free relays.
