IRIVINE, Calif. — The Georgia Tech men’s tennis team bounced back from a loss at the hands of eighth-ranked Pepperdine on Friday to down No. 75 UC-Irvine on Saturday afternoon by a 6-1 score.

The 26th-ranked Yellow Jackets (1-1) got things going early, as they won the doubles point by taking two of three doubles matches in the dual match. Tech’s No. 2 duo of Scott Schnugg and West Nott downed the Anteaters (0-4) team of O’Connor and Wijemanne by an 8-6 score, while the Jackets’ Stephen Moros and Joao Menano defeated Bjorman and Haynes 8-4.

Tech’s top team of Roger Anderson and David Wright fell to the 27th-ranked team of Morton and Endrikat by an 8-4 score.

In singles play, the Jackets won all but one match, claiming victories in spots one through five on the day. Anderson got things going as he defeated Carl Lumsden in straight sets 6-3, 6-1 and he was followed by Menano, who downed 74th-ranked Jon Endrikat in a hard-fought 2-6, 7-6, 6-3 match.

Wright continued the Tech onslaught at No. 3 singles, defeating Sean O’Connor in straight sets, 6-3, 7-5. The final two singles match wins went to Moros and Schnugg at No. 4 and No.5 respectively, as Moros dropped Greg Bjorkman in impressive fashion, 6-2, 6-2, while Schnugg beat Dontia Haynes, 3-6, 6-4, 6-1.
