NASHVILLE, TN – The Georgia Tech men’s tennis team was unable to sustain the momentum gained by winning the doubles point in its match with Vanderbilt and fell to the Commodores by a 5-2 score on Saturday afternoon in Nashville, Tenn.
The 23rd-ranked Yellow Jackets got off to a good start in the match, winning two of three doubles match-ups en route a 1-0 lead early in the match. Tech’s tandem of Scott Schnugg and West Nott won their match at No. 2 over Chad Harris and Lewis Smith by an 8-5 score, while Joao Menano and Stephen Moros defeated Jens Fredericksen and Tarkoff by an 8-6 count.
The 33rd-ranked Commodores only doubles win came at No. 1, as Scott Brown and Bobby Reynolds defeated the Jackets’ David Wright and Roger Anderson by an 8-6 score.
In singles action, Tech’s lone win came at the No. 3 spot, as sophomore Joao Menano defeated Zach Dailey in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4. The rest of the day belonged to Vanderbilt, as the Commodores won the remaining five singles matches.
Bobby Reynolds defeated Tech’s Roger Anderson at No. 1 singles in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4 and Chad Harris downed David Wright at No. 2 by a 6-0, 6-3 score. The Commodores clinched the match at the No. 5 spot as Jens Fredericksen defeated the Jackets’ West Nott in a tight match by a 6-4, 7-6 score.
The Yellow Jackets will be back in action on Sunday when they face 25th-ranked Middle Tennessee State in Murfreesboro, Tenn., beginning at noon.
