ATLANTA – The Georgia Tech men’s tennis team captured its second-straight ACC match on Wednesday afternoon with a 6-1 win over Clemson at the Bill Moore Tennis Center. The Jackets won all but one match en route to the victory.
The Yellow Jackets (11-8, 4-3 ACC) got off to a strong start in the match against the Tigers (9-13, 2-3 ACC) as they swept all three doubles matches to open the day. Roger Anderson and David Wright got things going at the No. 1 spot, as they downed Clemson’s duo of Damiisa Robinson and Goran Sterijovski by an 8-4 score. West Nott and Scott Schnugg followed them at No. 2, with a win over the Tigers’ Micah Thompson and Nathan Thompson by an impressive 8-1 count.
Tech’s third doubles tandem of Fabio Campos and Joao Menano defeated Clemson’s Sander Koning and Marko Gojanovic by a 6-5 score after the match was halted once the Jackets had clinched the doubles point in the match.
In singles play, the Yellow Jackets dropped just three sets in winning five of six matches on the day. Roger Anderson was the first Yellow Jacket to pick up a win, as he defeated the Tigers’ Goran Sterijovski in straight sets by an impressive 6-4, 6-0 score. Anderson’s doubles partner David Wright followed him at No. 2 singles with a 6-3, 6-3 straight-set win over Jamin Thompson. Scott Schnugg was a winner for the Jackets at No. 3 as he downed Micah Thompson in straight sets by a 6-3, 7-5 score.
Joao Menano kept the Tech roll going at No. 4 singles, as he defeated Marko Gojanovic in a three-set affair by scores of 2-6, 6-4, 6-4. West Nott was the Jackets’ final singles winner of the day as he was victorious at No. 6 over Damiisa Robinson by scores of 6-4, 6-1.
The Yellow Jackets will look for their third-straight victory on Sunday when they host 62nd-ranked Furman at the Bill Moore Tennis Center beginning at 1:30 p.m.
