ATLANTA – After tallying its fourth Atlantic Coast Conference win of the season over Clemson, 150.5-92.5, last Saturday afternoon, the Georgia Tech men’s swimming and diving team broke into the Top 25 polls at No. 25, released on Thursday afternoon. The Yellow Jackets will host Emory and North Florida (women) at Noon on Saturday for Senior Day in the Georgia Tech Aquatic Center.
Other ACC schools appearing the College Swim Coaches Association rankings are No. 10 Virginia, No. 22 North Carolina and No. 24 Florida State.
Leading the Jackets last Saturday were junior Jason Howard and sophomore Vesna Stojanovska. Howard tallied a NCAA `B’ qualifying standard in the men’s 200-yard freestyle (1:38.90) and posted a lifetime-best time of 45.32 in the 100 free.
Stojanovska broke the school record in the 200 free with a time of 1:49.22 and finished first in the women’s 500 freestyle with a time of 4:52.05 to record a pair of NCAA `B’ cut times against Clemson. The Skopje, Macedonia, native leads the ACC in the 200 free.
Junior All-American Sam Morgan owns a NCAA `B’ standard in the men’s 500 free with a season-best time of 4:27.32. The Gainesville, Ga., native ranks fifth in the ACC in the 500 free and fourth in the 1000 free (9:11.74).
Georgia Tech will host the men’s and women’s ACC Swimming and Diving Championships, Feb. 16-19 (women) and Feb. 23-26 (men), in the Georgia Tech Aquatic Center. All meets are free admission in the GTAC and can be followed via live stats on www.ramblinwreck.com.
