Tech Golfers Fall to Tulsa In Consolation of Collegiate Match Play Championship

Nov. 9, 2002

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Georgia Tech golf team was unable to rally on Saturday morning with the resumption of the second round and dropped its consolation match with Tulsa by a 4-1 score at the Hooters Collegiate Match Play Championship. The 16-team event is being contested at Barefoot Resort’s par-72, 7,343-yard Dye Course in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

The Yellow Jackets did not pick up an individual match win in the second round, as their only point in the match came from a pair of halved match-ups. Senior Troy Matteson halved his match with the Golden Hurricane’s David Inglis, while freshman Thomas Jordan halved his match with Marc Zien.

In the day’s other three matches, Tulsa claimed the team match as Billy Lowry downed Tech’s Chan Wongluekiet by a 6 and 4 score, while Chris Noel defeated Mike Barbosa 8 and 7 and Aaron Bell held off the Jackets’ Nicholas Thompson, 1 up.

The Yellow Jackets have now completed their fall schedule and will return to action on Feb. 12-14 when they travel to Hawai’i to compete in the Taylor Made/Waikoloa Intercollegiate. Full tournament results from the Hooters Collegiate Match Play Championship are available at www.golfstatlive.com.
