THE FLATS – On the first day of competition at the ACC Outdoor Championships, the Georgia Tech track and field teams recorded several personal and season best marks in a variety of events.
Jamir Gibson started the day off for Tech in the men’s hammer throw. Gibson threw a season-best mark of 56.69 meters (186-0).
In the long jump, Mikayla Williams led the women with a new PR (5.75m/18-10.5) and Cameron O’Neal finished 10th overall for the men (7.16m/23-6).
Tech began competition in the track events with the 400-meter hurdle preliminaries. Lydia Troupe led Tech’s three female competitors with a 12th-place time of 59.80 and Jackson Sexton finished 14th in the men’s race (53.74).
Chris Cherono was the top performer among the five Jackets racing in the men’s 1500m preliminaries. Cherono ran a personal-best time of 3:47.03 to finish 21st overall.
In the women’s 10,000m, Liz Galarza led Tech with a 13th-place finish and time of 34:48.87.
