PITTSBURGH – Despite a strong start, Georgia Tech softball (22-20, 8-7 ACC) dropped the series finale to Pittsburgh (22-16-1, 11-6 ACC) 6-2 at Vartabedian Field on Saturday. The Panthers took the series two games to one.

How it happened?
The Jackets wasted no time getting on the board. Leading off the game for Tech, senior Draven Sonnon took a strike and then sent the second pitch of the game over the wall in center field for her eighth homer of the season to put Tech on the board at 1-0.

The Panthers tied the game in the bottom of the second. A costly throwing error on a bunt from the Panthers brought in a run to tie the score at 1-1.

Pitt took the lead from the Jackets in the bottom of the third off a two-run home run to lead 3-1.

A solo shot in the bottom of the fifth from the Panthers brought the score to 4-1. The Jackets made a pitching change and freshman Naomi Dickerson came into the circle for the Jackets. The Panthers put up two more runs in the fifth to push their lead to 6-1.

With two outs in the top of sixth, freshman Saige Pye entered as a pinch hitter and knocked her first career home run over left field to bring the tally to 6-2. That is where the score would stay as the Jackets’ rally came up short and Anderson was landed with the loss.

Up next:
The Jackets return to The Flats on Wednesday, April 18 to take on Presbyterian at 6 p.m. on ACC Network Extra.
