CHARLOTTE AMALIE, U.S. Virgin Islands (AP) — Anthony Morrow scored 19 points to lead Georgia Tech to an 82-77 victory Friday over Charlotte at the Paradise Jam. Morrow scored 12 of his points in the second half, including a layup that gave the Yellow Jackets a 78-74 lead with less than a minute left.
Jeremis Smith added 15 points and Lewis Clinch had 14 for Georgia Tech (2-1), which never led by more than six. Leemire Goldwire and An’Juan Wilderness led the 49ers (2-1) with 17 points each.
After trailing for most of the first half, Charlotte opened the second half with an 8-0 run, capped by a 3-pointer from Goldwire. Morrow ended the run with a 3-pointer.
Georgia Tech led 78-77 with less than 8 seconds left before D’Andre Bell made the first of two free throws and got his own rebound to help secure the win.
The Yellow Jackets shot 52 percent from the field. Charlotte shot 37 percent, including 11 of 28 from 3-point range
