Tech Cross Country Set to Compete at Georgia State Invitational

Sept. 20, 2002

ATLANTA – The Georgia Tech men’s and women’s cross country teams will get an early-season look at the site of the 2002 ACC Championships, as the Jackets will compete at the Georgia State Invitational Saturday. The meet will be run at GSU’s Panthersville Course.

Other Division I schools slated to compete are Jacksonville State, Mercer, Morris Brown, as well as the host Panthers. Several non-Division I schools, including Emory, will also run. The eight-kilometer men’s race will start at 9 a.m., followed by the women’s 5K at 10 a.m.

Much like last week’s Bulldog Stampede, this race gives the Jackets a chance to get collegiate experience for several of their younger competitors, including eight freshmen.

Veterans scheduled to compete for the men’s team include senior Jimmy DeYonker, sophomore Adam Jones and junior Daniel Moss.

Seniors Eboni Crosby and Laura Ginn, as well as junior Amanda Gilley, will lead the women’s contingent. Junior Jenny Lentz, who spent the last two years on Tech’s swimming and track teams, is also slated to compete.

This meet is the first of three races for Tech this season at the Panthersville Course. Tech will have one more look at the course before the November 2 ACC Championships, as the Georgia Intercollegiate Championships will be run October 5.
