Tech Captures Doubles Title in Furman Fall Classic

GREENVILLE, S.C.Monika Dedaj and Rosie Garcia Gross captured the doubles flight four title on Saturday during the second day of the Debbie Southern Furman Fall Classic. Playing one round of doubles and a round of singles, the Yellow Jackets collected a pair of doubles victories and four singles wins.

The final round of doubles opened the day with Dedaj and Garcia Gross cruising to a title. Facing Clemson’s Jenna Thompson and Alexandra Anttila, the Jackets rolled to an 8-1 triumph. In consolation action, Ruth Marsh and Alejandra Cruz pocketed an 8-4 victory over Vanderbilt’s Amy Stevens and Sonya Macavei.

Georgia Tech won four singles matches in the lone round of play. Moving into the championship match of flight eight, Dedaj cruised to a 6-3, 6-3 decision over Mississippi State’s Dhorani Nirshan in the semifinals. She will face North Carolina’s Sophia Patel in the title match on Sunday at 10:30 a.m.

Also collecting wins for the Jackets, Mahak Jain, Alejandra Cruz and Kate Sharabura were all victorious in consolation play. Jain and Cruz battled into three sets against their opponents, defeating Holly Staff (Vanderbilt) and Madeline Atway (Ohio State), respectively. Sharabura rounded out Tech’s wins on the day, downing Madelyn Bemisderfer of Mississippi State, 6-4, 7-6 (2).

Play concludes on Sunday with the final round of singles beginning at 9 a.m.
