THE FLATS – Georgia Tech swept all three doubles matches and won all six singles matches without dropping a set as the 46th-ranked Yellow Jackets shut out The Citadel, 7-0, and completed a double-header sweep Sunday at the Ken Byers Tennis Complex.
Tech, which had beaten Old Dominion, 5-2, earlier in the day, improved to 6-1, while the Bulldogs fell to 2-8. The Jackets lost only nine games combined in six singles matches.
The closest match in the contest occurred in doubles, where Eduardo Segura and Carlos Benito, ranked 15th in the nation, were pushed by Elliott Sperr and Dillon Berkabile at No. 1, but the Tech duo prevailed, 8-5.
Nathan Rakitt, Tech’s top singles player, earned a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 1 to wash away the memory of a three-set loss to the nation’s 44th-ranked player from ODU earlier in the day. Benito, Segura, Cole Fiegel and Will Showers each won both their singles matches on Sunday, and sophomore Anish Sharma posted a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 6 singles after sitting out the ODU match.
Tech begins Atlantic Coast Conference play Saturday with a match at No. 37 Florida State.
