Tech Blanks Louisville, 7-0

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Georgia Tech women’s tennis dropped only one set on Sunday afternoon on its way to a 7-0 victory at Louisville. The Yellow Jackets went undefeated over the weekend, opening Atlantic Coast Conference play with a pair of wins and improving to 7-2 overall on the season.

DOUBLES
The Yellow Jackets grabbed the early lead for the second-straight match, sweeping doubles play against the Cardinals. Carol Lee and Rosie Garcia Gross gave Tech the edge, rolling to a 6-3 victory over Jamilah Snells and Tyra Richardson on court three. The Jackets pushed their 2-1 lead out to a 4-3 advantage and never looked back.

The point was clinched on court one where Kylie Bilchev and Alejandra Cruz held for a 7-5 win over Andrea DiPalma and Rhea Verma. Tech erased an early 2-1 deficit, grabbing a 4-3 edge and opened a 5-4 advantage. But Louisville knotted the match at 5-all. Bilchev and Cruz snapped the Cardinals’ late rally, winning the next two games for a 7-5 victory, giving Tech the 1-0 match lead.

Tech completed the sweep of doubles play, capturing a tiebreak win on court two as Kate Sharabura and Monika Dedaj topped Louisville’s Sasha Gorchanyuk and Maria Campos. Tech held a 5-4 advantage, but Louisville took the next two games for a 6-5 lead. The Cardinals could not close out the match as Tech forced a tiebreak at 6-6 and held for a 7-6 (5) victory.

SINGLES
The Yellow Jackets quickly extended their lead in singles action, picking up straight-set wins from Cruz, Garcia Gross and Lee to clinch the match. Wrapping up first, Cruz dominated Richardson on court four, collecting a 6-3, 6-0 victory, while Garcia Gross topped Campos, 7-5, 6-2. Lee clinched the match from the top seed, topping DiPalma in comfortable fashion, 6-2, 6-2.

Bilchev and Marsh cushioned the Jackets’ lead, also pocketing straight-set wins from courts two and six. Facing Snells on court two, Bilchev took home a 6-3, 6-2 decision, while Marsh upended Gorchanyuk on court six, 6-4, 6-3.

Jain completed the sweep of Louisville as the Jacket defeated Verma in three sets. After dropping the first set, 6-0, Jain regrouped and took the match, winning the final two sets, 6-4, 6-2.

The Yellow Jackets continue this ACC opening swing, visiting NC State on Friday, March 3. First serve is slated for 3 p.m. in Raleigh, N.C.
