ATLANTA – Georgia Tech and Vanderbilt will face each other on Jan. 3, 2006, at 5 p.m. at Alexander Memorial Coliseum, a game that completes the Yellow Jackets’ men’s basketball schedule for 2005-06.
The game will be televised throughout the Southeastern United States on FSN South and also on Comcast SportsNet in the mid-Atlantic region. This year’s game will be the first of a four-game series the schools have agreed upon. The Yellow Jackets will travel to Nashville during the 2006-07 and 2007-08 seasons, and the Commodores will return to Atlanta for a game in 2008-09.
The Commodores were 20-10 overall last season, reaching the quarterfinals of the post-season NIT. They were 8-8 in Southeastern Conference play, finishing in third place in the East Division. Tech is coming off a 20-12 campaign, having advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
Vanderbilt leads the overall series between the former SEC rivals, 36-31, having played just once since Tech left the league in 1964. That game was an 86-77 Tech overtime victory on Dec. 18, 1993, at the Georgia Dome. Tech holds a 19-13 lead against the Commodores in Atlanta.
In another schedule note, Tech’s Feb. 9 game at Florida State will have a 7 p.m. Eastern time tip-off and be televised on ESPNU.
