ATLANTA – The Georgia Tech men’s (1-6, 0-3 ACC) and women’s (4-5, 0-3) swimming and diving teams are set to close out the regular season Saturday by hosting Emory and Vanderbilt (women only). The meet is free of charge and begins at Noon at the Georgia Tech Aquatic Center.
Prior to the start of the meet, the 11 Tech seniors (Michael Bennett, Jeff Burton, Megan Campbell, Peter Doblar, Stephanie England, Amanda Gannon, Jacob Kwasnik, Elizabeth Stowe, Evan Stowers, Onur Uras and Katie Wright) will be honored.
Also tomorrow, the Georgia Tech women’s swimming and diving team is partnering with the Atlanta Chapter of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation in an effort to raise awareness and funds to help fight the cause of breast cancer.
Tech head coach Stu Wilson will establish times for each student-athlete in the various events that they will try and break. Fans, alums, parents and family members can then pledge an amount of money they wish to donate for every second the student-athlete finishes below that established time. Pink t-shirts will also be sold to allow spectators to show their support for the fight against breast cancer.
Live stats of both meets will be available at www.ramblinwreck.com. A full recap and results will be available after the conclusion of the day’s events.
Vandy just added swimming again in 2006 after not having a program since 1990. The Emory women’s team (6-1) is ranked second in Division III, while the men’s squad (6-1) is fourth.
