RICHMOND, Va. – Georgia Tech swimming and diving earned recognition for their work in the classroom, having both the men’s and women’s programs selected to the CSCAA Scholar All-America Team.
The Yellow Jacket men’s and women’s teams joined more than 700 programs across more than 400 institutions to make the grade. The women’s team earned the best team grade-point average in program history when it led all Georgia Tech sports with a 3.64, while the men’s team joined with a 3.28 GPA.
“What our student-athletes were able to accomplish this year, both in and out of the pool, was amazing,” said M. and Richard L. Bergmark Swimming and Diving head coach Courtney Shealy Hart. “To be able go through everything they have over the past year and put up the numbers they did in the classroom, as well as finishing nationally ranked in the country at NCAAs, is a testament to their efforts and hard work. They deserve all of this and more and I couldn’t be more proud of them.”
The teams are selected by the CSCAA’s Scholar All-America committee, where programs are required to earn a GPA of 3.0 or higher for the semester and maintain a roster of 12 or more student-athletes.
“Coach Hart continues to set the standard for success both in the pool and the classroom,” said CSCAA Executive Director Greg Earhart. “These are some of the best ambassadors of Georgia Tech and Athletic Director Todd Stansbury, President Dr. Angel Cabrera, and Dr. Baratunde Cola (Faculty Athletic Representative) can and should be proud of these men and women.”
