Date:Monday, April 1

Practice:No. 5 (of 14)

Dress:Full pads

Practice notes:Georgia Tech is one-third through spring drills after Monday’s practice, a full-pads session under ideal conditions… with linebackers Jabari Hunt-Days and Brandon Watts sidelined with injuries, senior Daniel Drummond and junior Tremayne McNair, among others, are getting significant snaps with the first unit… a number of players are out with various injuries, but the positive is many young players are getting experience… although a two-deep won’t be established until the end of spring, it’s entirely possible that one-half of the starting defensive line were born outside the U.S. – Jeremiah Attaochu (Nigeria) and Adam Gotsis (Australia)… linebacker Beau Hankins has switched jersey numbers from #59 to #33.

Position battle:The secondary is the most veteran unit on the team and it’s likely the Yellow Jackets will start two seniors – Jemea Thomas and Louis Young – at corner. It’s also perhaps Tech’s deepest group as well. Junior Jamal Golden, sophomores Chris Milton, Demond Smith, Domonique Noble and D.J. White, and redshirt freshman Lynn Griffin have all shown capability this spring.

Paul Johnson on the defense: “Just like the offense, they’ve had their moments. At times they’ve done OK and at times not so great. It’s a growing process. It’s not going to happen in four days. But I think they’re flying around, they’re working at it. I’m encouraged.” Hit of the day:Sophomore cornerback D.J. White absolutely leveled walk-on A-back Sam McNearney.
