2020 HONORABLE MENTION ALL-ACC
2020 (True Freshman): Turned in a dynamic freshman campaign, despite being limited to playing in just seven of Georgia Tech’s 10 games due to injury … Named second-team freshman all-America by The Athletic as an all-purpose back … Named honorable-mention all-conference as a return specialist … Led Georgia Tech in all-purpose yards (968) and scoring (seven TDs) … Ranked second on the team in rushing yards (460), rushing touchdowns (4), receptions (24), receiving yards (303) and touchdown receptions (3) … Compiled the gaudy numbers in just six-and-a-half games, missing the season-opener at Florida State (Sept. 12) then getting injured in the first half of Tech’s Nov. 28 win over Duke and being forced to sit out the final two games of the campaign at NC State (Dec. 5) and versus Pitt (Dec. 10) … Averaged a gaudy 25.6 yards per kickoff return, which would have ranked second in the ACC and 22nd nationally if he had enough attempts to qualify for the NCAA’s official statistical rankings … Became only the seventh Power 5 conference player since 2000 to compile 450 rushing yards, 300 receiving yards and 200 kickoff return yards in a team’s first eight games of the season, joining an elite list that includes Reggie Bush (USC – 2004), Marion Grice (Arizona State – 2013), Christian McCaffery (Stanford – 2015), Joe Mixon (Oklahoma – 2016), Saquon Barkley (Penn State – 2017) and Lynn Bowden, Jr. (Kentucky – 2019) — a feat made even more impressive by the fact that Gibbs only played in six-and-a-half of the Yellow Jackets’ first eight games … After missing the opener at FSU, Gibbs made his collegiate debut in Tech’s home opener versus UCF (Sept. 19) and on the very first play of his collegiate career, returned the opening kickoff 75 yards to the UCF 21 yard line … Went on to record 219 all-purpose yards (66 rushing, 60 receiving, 75 kickoff return) and score two touchdowns (9-yard reception, 33-yard run) against the Knights … Went on to score a total of five touchdowns in his first three games — including the two vs. UCF, a 24-yard reception at Syracuse (Sept. 26) and a 19-yard reception versus Louisville (Oct. 9) that he capped with a leap over two UL defenders at the goal line and provided the go-ahead points in the fourth quarter of the Yellow Jackets’ 46-27 victory … Had a career-high 105 rushing yards on just 18 carries at Syracuse … Recorded at least 60 rushing yards (61) and 60 receiving yards (60) for the second time in three games against Louisville … Ran for 67 yards on 15 carries against eventual ACC champion and College Football Playoff participant Clemson (Oct. 17) … Had a would-be 97-yard kickoff return for a touchdown called back due to a penalty at Boston College (Oct. 24) … Ran for 61 yards on 14 carries and caught five passes for 49 yards against eventual College Football Playoff participant Notre Dame (Oct. 31) … Was on his way to having the best game of his young career versus Duke (Nov. 28) with 91 rushing yards and two touchdowns (61 and 26 yards) and four catches for 48 yards before his would-be season-ending injury in the second quarter … 61-yard touchdown run and 42-yard reception against Duke were both career highs.
